OFNR 20

THESE DUDES KNOW HOW TO THROW DOWN

By: Zach Haberern

A lot of bands have come through Cherry Street Station throughout the years since their establishment in 1997. They’ve been a pivotal foundational pillar for original music in Connecticut. October 3rd, 2026 was absolutely a night for the books as I heard various audience members saying things like, “Wow! I haven’t seen a local show like this since the old days.” and “This really takes me back!”

Bob “Knob” Marino (pictured) has been a big voice in the community and recently published a book highlighting key scene moments from 2005 - 2023. The books sold out very quickly. I have one being shipped to me that will arrive in a couple days!

This event was put on to help celebrate a transition in the life of OFNR, a local radio station that has spent nearly two decades hosting live broadcasts, band interviews, and has continued to support local music in Connecticut. OFNR20 highlighted a reunion with some of the most passionate people in the scene and even introduced Bob’s son to the local scene. I have no doubt he will continue the passion and bloodline that Bob has offered all these years.

Anyway, this show packed a punch with some heavy hitters including: Tax Collectors & Harlots, Continuum, Fear the Masses, Local Hero, and She Walks Without Legs. They all brought the heat and really drove their performances home in some of the nastiest playing I feel the absolutely packed to the brim room has ever experienced at Cherry Street.

There was a raffle held where all the bands graciously donated an item and books were given away. These tickets were handed to the first 20 people in the door.

Angela Vartuli, Bob’s girlfriend, also secretly put together a GoFundMe to help Bob get back to his home in North Dakota.

It was definitely an emotional night where we all celebrated the local music scene we all have come to love and cherish.

I’m so grateful to live in this tri-state area with so many talented bands with so much love and acceptance.
