5/8/2026As you may know, the Connecticut scene is packed with heavy metal talent and is the birthplace of notable acts such as Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Currents, Emmure, and many more insane bands that have nothing short of made a mark on metal history - which makes this an extra special place to grow up as a metal head. I’ll never forget my time in old VFW halls and putting together DIY shows at peoples houses packed with local favorite groups. It wasn’t about album sales but actually just about love of the music. Among these bands was What Weapons Bring War - a Bristol, CT based deathcore band in the early 2000’s that would quickly get attention. They would release their first album in 2003 and would later release a demo a couple years later. (Metal-Archives)
What Weapons Bring War wasted no time bringing a brutal take to Death Metal with a sprinkle of hardcore and other various genres, refusing to fit themselves in a box during a time when metalcore was at the forefront. They would find themselves very much becoming a big part of the New England music scene, playing anywhere from basements to supporting bigger acts on large stages. They would continue to bring their unique take on death metal.
After some time, What Weapons Bring War would eventually disband, as bands do tend to come and go in the scene. It’s something you get used to - much like the ever-changing Dunkin’ menu.
We waited and waited… and on one fateful day, a logo would drop on their socials on December 31, 2024. After years of silence and several lineup changes, this unique death metal band emerged once again in 2025, announcing in February that they would be returning to the stage with an iconic show at Bleacher’s Bar in Bristol, CT. Then, in March, they revealed they had returned to the studio for the first time since 2007. The Doombringer album would drop on our heads with massive intensity delivering a sound that brings compositions clearly from truly seasoned artists.
For other musicians and fans alike, What Weapons Bring War will show you where persistence, loyalty, and creative freedom can take you.
